Work is done and school is out, which can only mean one thing: it’s the weekend! What better way to celebrate than by noshing at a family-favorite food & wine festival, chatting with a former president or getting your comedy on with an improv show? If you’re in search of some great activities for this weekend, look no further:

I know you love to laugh (because you’re human), but laughing while amidst an art gallery in a gorgeous Greek Revival building? One, please. At this special nighttime event, enjoy off-the-cuff improv by a local theatre troupe plus a cash bar starting at 7:30 p.m.

Alexandria Food & Wine Festival
Saturday June 21, 2014 from 12-5 p.m.
John Carlyle Square, 300 John Carlyle Street

food and wine 2

At this 3rd annual event, foodies can sample dishes from local eateries and sip on Virginia wines while enjoying live entertainment (there’s even a children’s corner to keep the kids content!). Throughout the day, restaurants will compete for the best appetizer, main course and dessert, as voted on by local personalities.

Hand’s On History Tent: A Privateer’s Life for Me!
Saturday June 21, 2014 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Carlyle House, 121 N. Fairfax Street

Museums
At this free event, stop by Carlyle House for the annual Hand’s On History Tent, where kids can choose between becoming a privateer or a pirate (choose wisely, young grasshoppers) and participate in activities like candle dipping, flag making and boat building.
